Virtual Assistant Business Names - Are You Stuck?

Filed under: Ask A Virtual Assistant, How To Become A Virtual Assistant

It can be quite a challenge to come up with suitable Virtual Assistant business names. Does the question below sound familiar?

“I’m contemplating starting a virtual assistant business and am having trouble with a business name. Every combination I’ve tried using the word “virtual” seems to be taken when it comes to finding a domain name. Other combinations are also unavailable using the words “assistant”, “office”, “business”, etc. — you get the idea. And since the whole idea is that it’s virtual, I was trying to stay away from using any geographical name. It is becoming increasingly hard to find a web address that someone has not already taken.”

Hmm, I can sympathize. What you need to do is think outside the square. You don’t need to use the word ‘virtual’. How about ‘online’ instead of ‘virtual’?

And instead of ‘assistant’, how about ’secretary’, ’secretarial’, ‘assistance’, ‘personal assistance’, ‘personal assistant’, ‘administration’ or ‘admin’? Throw in words such as ’service’ or ’services’ into the mix too.

If you’re providing more specialized services, you can use words related to whatever you’re offering e.g. ‘desktop publishing’, ‘copywriting’, ‘editing’, ‘proofreading’ etc.

Why not use your surname in your business name too?

When searching for domain names, also try hyphens in between the main words. You’ll be surprised at what you’ll find!

At Namecheap, where you can register domain names, there is a search function that you can use, to enter up to three main keywords. I just entered ‘online, ’secretary’ and ’service’ and it told me that this domain is still available, with hyphens:

Try it out for yourself!

thank you so much! you would not believe this but I just cannot think of a name that I like and have been racking my brain to come up with something unique. I will have a look at the site and see what I can find

once again, thank you for your invaluable advice.

Kind regards
Lynne

Hi Lynne, you may also want to check out www.pickydomains.com - I’ve used them in the past. They’ll come up with some very creative ideas for your domain, and you only pay them if you like one of their suggestions! I know it’s another expense, but the money I paid them was well worth it in terms of time savings. Plus some of their ideas are very, very unique!

Thanks so much for this advice, as I have been trying to wrap my brain around what to do in terms of a name for my site. I had come up with one name, but was not feeling really good about it. But this site gave me more ideas. And as you mentioned thinks outside of the square.
